Winter 2018 Volunteer Opportunities

The Lancaster Area Coalition for the Homeless (LACH), is seeking volunteers to prepare meals for the Women and Children that will be staying at the Warming Center this year throughout the month of March. For our online meal sign up and more information click HERE.

LACH is also seeking dedicated volunteers to brave the cold weather on January 24th for the annual Point-In-Time Count. The "PIT Count" is a count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons on a single night in January. This yearly event serves as a measurement tool to gauge the level of need in counties across the nation and results are sent to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This can be critical in securing much needed funding and resources to aid us in the fight to end homelessness in our community. If you are interested in volunteering for the PIT Count please email Deborah Boulware at Exec.Director@uwaylcsc.org

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is still recruiting volunteers to prepare taxes for individuals making less than $54,000 a year. In just this past year the program was able to bring back $625,237 for families who need it most, at no cost to them. Interested participants can email Exec.Director@uwaylcsc.org for information about trainings and how to get involved.

The time to volunteer for United Way of Lancaster County's Community Investment Panels has arrived! These panels review the non-profit agencies that have applied to UWLC for funding and make recommendations to the board of directors. This is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with Lancaster's non-profit community and learn about the resources available to those in need. Panel members will have the opportunity to tour their assigned agency and hear directly from staff about how the organization functions and their impact in the community. Interested volunteers will need to complete a brief application which can be found HERE. Completed applications may be turned in to the office (at 109 S. Wylie St.) or emailed to admin@uwaylcsc.org
